## Common ground
All options are types of electrical insulation tapes used to insulate wires and electrical components.
## Options at a glance
**3919.10 – Plastic, ≤20 cm, self-adhesive**
- **Defining trait:** Made from plastic, self-adhering, narrow (≤20 cm width).
- **Typical examples:** PVC electrical tape, standard household wire wrap.
- **Best fit when:** Used for small-diameter wires, general-purpose insulation with adhesive backing.
**3919.90 – Plastic, >20 cm, self-adhesive**
- **Defining trait:** Same material as 3919.10 but wider (>20 cm).
- **Typical examples:** Large-diameter cable wrapping, industrial bundling.
- **Best fit when:** Covering wide surfaces or multiple cables at once.
**3920 – Plastic, non-self-adhesive**
- **Defining trait:** Plastic-based but requires mechanical fastening (not adhesive).
- **Typical examples:** Insulation tape used with ties or clamps in fixed installations.
- **Best fit when:** Application where adhesion isn’t needed or where tape must be removable.
**4005.10 – Non-vulcanized rubber, self-adhesive**
- **Defining trait:** Made from non-vulcanized (soft, flexible) rubber with adhesive.
- **Typical examples:** Temporary insulation, low-temperature environments.
- **Best fit when:** Flexibility and ease of removal are key; not for high heat or long-term use.
**4008.11 – Porous vulcanized rubber**
- **Defining trait:** Vulcanized (hardened) rubber with porous structure.
- **Typical examples:** Insulation in high-vibration environments, mechanical protection.
- **Best fit when:** Need for durability and breathability; not for moisture sealing.
**4008.21 – Non-porous vulcanized rubber**
- **Defining trait:** Vulcanized rubber with sealed, non-porous surface.
- **Typical examples:** Waterproof insulation in outdoor or wet conditions.
- **Best fit when:** Moisture resistance and long-term sealing are required.
**5906.10 – Rubberized material, ≤20 cm, self-adhesive**
- **Defining trait:** Composite rubber-like material, narrow width, adhesive.
- **Typical examples:** Flexible insulation for electronics or automotive use.
- **Best fit when:** Requires a balance of flexibility and adhesion in small applications.
**5906.99 – Rubberized material, >20 cm, non-adhesive**
- **Defining trait:** Wide rubberized tape without adhesive backing.
- **Typical examples:** Large-area shielding or wrapping in industrial settings.
- **Best fit when:** Covering large surfaces where adhesion isn’t needed.
**6814.10 – Mica-based**
- **Defining trait:** Made from mica, a high-temperature insulating mineral.
- **Typical examples:** Insulation in motors, transformers, or high-temp equipment.
- **Best fit when:** Extreme heat resistance is required.
**7019.69 – Glass fiber fabric**
- **Defining trait:** Reinforced with glass fibers; high thermal and mechanical strength.
- **Typical examples:** Insulation in power cables, aerospace, or high-current systems.
- **Best fit when:** High durability, heat resistance, and tensile strength needed.

## How to choose
1. Is the tape adhesive? → Yes: 3919.10, 3919.90, 4005.10, 5906.10
2. Is it wider than 20 cm? → Yes: 3919.90, 5906.99
3. Is the material rubber or rubber-like? → Yes: 4005.10, 4008.11, 4008.21, 5906.10, 5906.99
4. Is it made of mica or glass fiber? → Mica: 6814.10; Glass fiber: 7019.69
## Overlaps & pitfalls
- **Adhesive vs. non-adhesive** can be ambiguous if tape has partial adhesion. Prioritize the main function.
- **Rubberized material (5906)** overlaps with rubber-based (4005, 4008) — use 5906 for composite rubber-like materials.
- **Width threshold** is critical: >20 cm triggers different codes.
- If multiple traits apply (e.g., wide and adhesive), prioritize **material type and adhesion** over width.
- No priority rule given — choose based on the product’s **main function or defining feature**
