## Common ground
All options describe hatboxes made from different primary materials.
## Options at a glance
**4202.9X – Leather or synthetic materials**
- **Defining trait:** Made primarily from leather, composition leather, plastic sheeting, textiles, vulcanized fibre, or paperboard, or fully/primarily covered with such materials.
- **Typical examples:** Luxury hatboxes with faux leather coverings, fabric-lined boxes, or rigid plastic cases.

- **Defining trait:** Constructed from woven natural or synthetic plaiting materials like rattan, reed, or synthetic fibers.

**4819 – Paper or paperboard**
- **Defining trait:** Made entirely or mainly from paper or paperboard, often corrugated or folded.
- **Typical examples:** Plain cardboard hatboxes, gift boxes with printed designs.

## Key differences
| Feature | 4202.9X | 4602 | 4819 |
|---------------------|------------------------|------------------------|-----------------------|

| Construction | Solid or layered sheets | Interwoven strands | Folded/pressed layers |
| Durability | High | Medium | Low to medium |
## How to choose
- Is the box made of woven materials like reed, rattan, or synthetic fibers? → 4602
- Does it have a leather-like, fabric, plastic, or rigid sheet covering? → 4202.9X
- Is it made entirely of paper, cardboard, or corrugated board? → 4819
## Overlaps & pitfalls
A box with a paperboard core and woven paper cover might fit both 4602 and 4819. In such cases, prioritize the **primary structural material**: if woven, use 4602; if paper-based and not woven, use 4819. The defining trait should be the dominant construction method, not surface decoration
