## Common ground
All options refer to robot vacuum cleaners, but differ in application, power, capacity, and environment.
## Options at a glance
**8421.21 – Pool cleaning robots**
- **Defining trait:** Designed specifically for underwater use in swimming pools to filter or purify water.
- **Typical examples:** Intex Pool Cleaner, Dolphin Nautilus.
- **Best fit when:** The robot operates exclusively in water and is not usable on dry surfaces.
**8479.89 – Industrial robot vacuum cleaners**
- **Defining trait:** Built for heavy-duty, large-scale cleaning in industrial or commercial settings (e.g., factories, warehouses).
- **Typical examples:** Automatic floor scrubbers with vacuum functions in manufacturing plants.
- **Best fit when:** The device is used in non-residential, high-dust environments and exceeds typical household use.
**8508.11 – Household robot vacuums (≤1500 W, ≤20 L bag)**
- **Defining trait:** Standard home-use robots with strict power and dust bag capacity limits.
- **Typical examples:** Roomba 690, Eufy RoboVac 11.
- **Best fit when:** The robot is for residential use, under 1500 W, and has a dust bag ≤20 liters.
**8508.19 – Other household robot vacuums**
- **Defining trait:** Household robots that don’t meet the size or power limits of 8508.11 (e.g., higher power, larger capacity, bagless).
- **Typical examples:** Roborock S7, iRobot Roomba j7+.
- **Best fit when:** The robot is for home use but exceeds 1500 W or has a dust bin >20 L.
## Key differences
| Feature | 8421.21 | 8479.89 | 8508.11 | 8508.19 |
|-----------------------|---------------|------------------|------------------------|----------------------|
| Environment | Underwater | Industrial | Residential (low power) | Residential (any power) |
| Power limit | N/A | N/A | ≤1500 W | >1500 W or no limit |
| Dust bag capacity | N/A | N/A | ≤20 L | >20 L or bagless |
## How to choose
- Is it designed for use in swimming pools? → 8421.21
- Is it used in factories, warehouses, or commercial buildings? → 8479.89
- Does it have ≤1500 W power and ≤20 L dust bag capacity? → 8508.11
- Otherwise, for home use with higher specs or no bag → 8508.19
## Overlaps & pitfalls
- A robot vacuum with high power but used only at home fits both 8508.11 and 8508.19; priority goes to **power/capacity limits**.
- Pool robots (8421.21) are not household devices, so they don’t overlap with 8508.x codes.
- Industrial robots (8479.89) may look like large vacuums but are not for homes.
- If a product is both high-power and bagless, it belongs in **8508.19**—the “other” category takes precedence when limits are exceeded
