This subheading includes non-impact printers, provided that they are not capable of connecting to an automatic dataprocessing machine or to a network, such as: 1. thermal printers, in which an electrically heated thermal print head produces the desired characters on heat-sensitive
paper by means of a dot matrix; 2. electrostatic printers, in which the moving, statically charged metal tips of the write head produce invisible characters made up of small electrostatically charged dots on electrographic paper. Toner fluid is used to ink the charged dots and
produce visible characters. The printers listed above are controlled by data media (for example, CD ROM, diskettes, magnetic tapes or semiconductor media) or by machines other than automatic data-processing machines (for example, digital cameras, video camera
recorders or telephones for cellular networks).
