Turbochargers and superchargers for internal combustion engine are classified either under fans or compressors depending on the final operating pressure they create. Turbochargers capable of a final operating pressure in excess of 35 lbs psi are provided for as "air compressors". Those creating a final pressure below 1 psi are considered as “fans”.
